Avoid These Ingredients in Your Nutritional Gummies for Better Health

Personalised nutrients for you Get Your Recommendation

When looking at the difference between pills and gummies, the latter is easier to consume, tastier and packs just as many (and if not more) benefits than consuming a similar pill product.

Nourished stacks come in a delicious gummy form, meaning that you consume them as you would any other food and they are easier to digest than pills. Vitamin tablets are often very large to fit the doses of nutrients inside them and therefore can be particularly hard to swallow. If you are taking several different vitamins or supplements a day then this can mean a painful process of swallowing many tablets.

Gummies Vs Pills

Vitamin D is an extremely popular supplement and is currently recommended by Public Health England to be consumed by the entire UK population to support healthy bones and muscles during the winter and autumn months. A recent study looked to establish whether Vitamin D supplements are best absorbed when taken as a pill or gummy [iii].

The study found that there was a significant increase in the bioavailability of Vitamin D prepared in gummies than those manufactured in tablets. The study suggested that gummies are chewed and their dissolution begins in the mouth when combined with saliva, and then continues throughout the body; which gives them greater bioavailability than pills which are swallowed whole.

Gummies vs pills Nourished

Data taken from our Vitamin D trial with our partners at Elo Health also found that consumers enjoy taking gummies much more compared to traditional pills. The trial results highlighted that our Nourished Gummies not only effectively boost the Vitamin D levels of participants, but also demonstrate that making supplements more enjoyable to consume does not compromise their health benefits, offering an appealing alternative to traditional pills. You can read more about our Elo Health trial results here.

Even though gummies are more enjoyable to consume, there still can be some things to look out for with the multitude of options out there, especially as not all gummies are made equal.

We wanted to share below what you should be looking out for and how our stacks differ from others .

Not All Gummies Are Made Equal

Traditional gummy vitamins, with their appealing flavours and textures, seem like an inviting option, yet they can often compromise on health benefits to make them taste better. This is frequently done by adding sugars and animal-derived ingredients, such as gelatine. Most gummies also lack any sort of personalisation (which we will get into a little later in this blog).

For those striving to maintain a nutrition regime using ethical products while still enjoying the convenience and pleasure of gummy vitamins, the choices can seem limited. These are all factors we considered during our research and development stage in designing our Nourished stacks.

When it comes to nutrition, we believe that no one should have to compromise between effective, ethical products and convenience and enjoyment.  Our Nourished Stacks are personalised, vegan, sugar-free and use high-quality ingredients.

Let's get into why all these factors are important, and how our stacks differ from others on the market.

Personalised Nutrition Tailored to You:

Unlike the one-size-fits-all approach of most other gummies, our Stacks are crafted to meet your individual health goals, mind and body. Utilising a sophisticated algorithm, we analyse your health profile through an online consultation to create a blend of nutrients that caters precisely to your body's needs. We then 3D-print your selection on demand, ensuring optimal efficacy and absorption levels, so that you feel the maximum impact from your bespoke blend.

Other products on the market lack this level of personalisation and instead make a product that’s suitable to the average of the mass market, and only super targeted to a niche group who sit at that average.

We have a detailed an extensive blog post here that goes more into depth about the benefits of personalised nutrition.

No Added Sugars:

It seems counterintuitive to add sugar to a gummy that's meant to improve your overall health and wellbeing, however, a lot of products on the market can contain up to 8g per gummy. Sugar is often considered an ‘empty calorie’, being very calorie-dense whilst providing no health benefits.

According to NHS England, excessive sugar intake can lead to weight gain, potentially resulting in Type 2 Diabetes, cardiovascular issues, and certain cancers [i].

Sugar Nourished

At Nourished, our stacks contain 0g of sugar. We instead use a natural sweetener derived from fruits, ensuring that they still have a delicious sweet or sour taste without the negative effects sugar brings.

You can learn more about the negative effects of sugar here.

Vegan and Cruelty-Free Ingredients:

Ethical considerations are at the forefront of our ingredient selection at Nourished because  Nourishing your health shouldn't come at the cost of harming the planet.

Our stacks are Vegan Society-approved, allergen-free and . This means that they don’t contain any gelatine, but the same can't be said about others on the market.

Gelatine is a gelling agent that is usually derived from animal products, making them unsuitable for vegetarians.

Most vegetarian brands use an alternative called pectin, but it's important to read the ingredients as some brands use a combination of both pectin and gelatine in their products.

Another ingredient to look out for is Carmine, which is often considered a natural colouring agent. However, it's worth pointing out that this ingredient is derived from dried insects and wouldn't be suitable for those following a strict vegetarian or vegan diet.

By choosing plant-based ingredients over gelatine, we ensure our Stacks are not only vegan but also free from animal cruelty. This commitment extends to every aspect of our products, from the active ingredients to the colouring and flavouring, making them suitable for a wide range of dietary preferences and ethical stances.
