Plastic free, home compostable packaging

Personalised nutrients for you Get Your Recommendation
At Nourished we are passionate about sustainability. We have gone to great lengths to ensure that all our packaging is entirely plastic free, and that our carbon footprint is reduced as much as possible. Our letterbox friendly boxes are made from at least 90% recycled cardboard, and our individual flow wraps are made from a unique wood pulp material.

But plastic free wasn’t enough; we wanted to make sure we are Nourishing the Earth, as well as our bodies. Our individual flow wraps are home-compostable, meaning they can be absorbed into the ground in just 32 weeks. Our individual wrappers are certified with the TUV home compostable standard, and even contain a bio-degradable ink. Simply pop them into your home composting unit and leave them to breakdown into the earth.

What does 'home compostable' mean?

Home composting is the most sustainable way of getting rid of home and garden waste. It is used as means of controlled decomposition for materials such as food scraps, grass clippings and torn up paper. Once broken down, the compost is extremely effective as a fertiliser or for soil improvement.

Home composting can be practised all year round, is quick and easy to do and is extremely beneficial for the environment. Not only does it reduce waste going to landfill, it also reduces carbon emissions as it is dealt with in your own back garden, rather than having to be collected and managed by heavy transport arranged by the council.

How can you start composting at home?

To start home composting in your own garden, you will need a compost bin positioned in a shaded area to keep the contents warm and dry. This is the best environment for micro-organisms to convert the waste into compost. It can take between 6 months and 2 years for the compost to reach maturity and should be a dark brown colour with a crumbly texture when it is ready.

If you live in a flat or don’t have enough room in your garden for an outdoor compost bin; don’t fret! There are plenty of methods to enable you to compost your home waste and Nourished wrappers;

  • Purchase an indoor home compost bin such as a worm bin or indoor composter
  • Dig a trench in your garden and bury your organic waste
  • Check if your local council offer a composting or collection service
  • Take your waste to a farmers market or community garden.

Why do use individual wrappers?

At Nourished we 3D print each stack on demand and wrap them once they have dried into our wood pulp film to ensure their efficacy and freshness, and prevent any contamination of the product. It also means the stacks can’t stick together in the box, and makes it easier for you to take them on the go!

Our blue letterbox friendly boxes are also compostable in industrial systems, but can be recycled at home in your normal recycling bin. If you have any questions about our packaging or need further details on how to home compost your flow wraps, please reach out to us at customerlove@get-nourished.com
